The Employability Award serves as an introduction to the working world. It is aimed to those that are not sure on how to become and remain employed, this is available at levels three and four of SCQF. We deliver this training through our employability training Glasgow team, so contact us if you think you could benefit from it.

The Award is created with a number of initiatives from the Scottish Government. These are designed with the aim of enhancing the development of employability for Scottish candidates and also to recognise the achievements that these learners have made.

The Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning said that the Award is essential in improving the employability of those seeking work. It supports those looking for good quality training and it also stimulates the job sector of the United Kingdom. The Employability Award was created with these goals in mind and supports unemployed candidates with essential knowledge.

The course materials focus on the more generic side of employability skills, this enables the candidate to move successfully into the job market.

The candidate develops both skills and attitudes that can be used across many areas of employment. The units of this course are:

Certificate of Work Readiness (CWR)

The Certificate of Work Readiness is an award designed specifically for young people who are ready for their first experience of work, but need some guided support. The certificate includes a unique employer assessed ‘real life’ work experience placement, providing a meaningful qualification and a credible standard employers can trust.

Successful completion of this award offers the young person improved job prospects and transferable skills in self evaluation, planning and goal setting that can be applied to any workplace.

The Certificate in Work Readiness has been developed by Skills Development Scotland and is accredited by SQA, which gives young people the chance to prove they have the skills that employers want.

  • Our young people will get a minimum of 190 hours work experience with an employer and develop their employability skills with Spohrt-Training.
  • A training allowance or Educational Maintenance Allowance may be available.
  • Young people are assessed by the employer at the end of the work placement.

The CWR Certificate is made up of 5 SQA units including the customised work experience unit:

  • Dealing with work situations.
  • Personal Development: Self and Work.
  • Skills for Customer Care.
  • Skills Development Scotland customised unit: Practical Work Place Skills.
