These nationally recognised qualifications are partially funded by SDS (Skills Development Scotland). They’re a great way for you to learn new and practical skills while in the workplace. They’re known for giving people the chance to train, work and earn money all at the same time.

  • Modern apprenticeship candidates must be employed and working within a sector applicable to the qualification.
  • They must undertake and pass mandatory units plus optional units that relate to the job role or requirements of the business.
  • These courses can last from 1 to 4 years.
  • The candidate will be visited in their place of work every 2 to 4 weeks for assessment.
  • They will be expected to provide work based evidence as part of their portfolio and meet any criteria set out.
  • The candidate will be expected to return to a training centre for additional support and personal development assistance.

Personal Training SVQ Level 3

This qualification allows the candidate to show their competence in job related skills. This will apply to skills relevant to your particular area of work and expertise.

The Scottish Vocational Qualification is a level 7 SCQF accredited program. It covers assisting the candidates to maintain a lasting adherence to exercise and activity. This allows the candidate to evaluate programmes and teaches them about health and welfare promotion within active leisure.

Candidates will also learn how to design, manage and adapt a personal training programme with others. This will allow them to deliver physical activity tasks as part of the overall programme and using nutrition to support the goals of their participant. This Modern Apprenticeship allows the candidate to become a part of the active learning and leisure sector. This makes a significant impact on both the economy of Scotland and the UK as a whole. This course is SQA accredited. As a part of this course, the candidate will complete the following five Core qualifications:

There is also an enhancement qualification in First Aid at work.

Youth Work SVQ Level 2/3

The Youth Work Level 2 is a requirement of the Scottish Social Services Council for anyone employed in the youth work sector. The course is created for people who wish to be support workers in a sector that concerns young people.

Anyone employed in this sector should be working towards or have achieved this qualification. To successfully achieve this, the candidate must complete four mandatory units plus another optional one.

This qualification comes as a result of a collaboration with the Scottish Government, Youthlink Scotland and Education Scotland. It should be considered by:

  • Support workers
  • Buddies or Peers
  • Full or Part-time youth work volunteers
  • Casual Youthworkers
  • Youth Carer or Youth Justice Workers

As part of the Level 2 Framework for this Modern Apprenticeship, candidates will also complete a numeracy module. Other core skills are also embedded within this qualification so the candidate will also complete an enhancement qualification in First Aid at Work, which is SQA accredited.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to move on to the SVQ level three in Youth Work. This is reliant on the job role and the ability of the candidate to carry out the tasks involved.

The level three consists of five mandatory unit and a further optional one:

SQA Accredited

  • Facilitate young people’s exploration of their values and beliefs.
  • Ensable youn people to work effectively in groups.
  • Enale young people to use their learning to evauate and enahnce rtheir future development.
  • Fulfil the leagl regualtory and ethical requirments relevant to youth work.
  • Develop productive working relationships with colleagues.

As part of the SVQ level 3 MA Framework, you will complete the numeracy Core Skill at SCQF Level 5, as all other Core Skills are emedded in the SVQ, you will also complete an enhancement qualifcation in Sports Leadership at Level 2.

SVQ Leisure 3 in Leisure Management

On completion of this qualification, the candidate will have the skills to work in the Leisure Management industry. The SVQs in this sector are developed for people in the sport and leisure industry with current experience and knowledge. This includes both voluntary and paid roles, such as those that work in outdoor education, recreation centres, sports clubs etc.

The candidate must have knowledge of:

  • Managing Resources and leading your own responsibility.
  • Implementing and reviewing strategies and policies.
  • Promotion of equality and diversity.
  • Ensuring the Health, safety, welfare and security of customers and staff.

SQA AccreditedThis SVQ is designed to be assessed within the working environment or similar conditions. These could include:

  • Outdoor education centres.
  • Activity holiday centres.
  • Youth clubs and organisations.
  • Public and provate recreation.
  • Sports departments and centres.
  • University and college sports departments.
  • NGB centres.
  • Local/national sports clubs.

As part of the framework of this Modern Apprenticeship, the candidate will complete five Core qualifications:

SVQ Level 2 Sports Coaching

This course is designed to allow learners to demonstrate their competence in job based skills in their area of work. It covers:

  • Planning for, giving and reflecting on sports coaching sessions.
  • Adhering to Health and Safety guidelines concerning the welfare of participants and staff.
  • Instruction in how to support those with disabilities in sports coaching.
  • Instructing children in health and fitness activities.

SQA Accredited

The qualification is SQA accredited and is awarded with the SkillsActive Sector Skills Council.

Part of this Modern Apprenticeship programme also covers the IT Core Skill qualification at level four. Candidates will also complete the First Aid at Work qualification.

Certificate of Work Readiness (CWR)

The Certificate of Work Readiness is an award designed specifically for young people who are ready for their first experience of work, but need some guided support. The certificate includes a unique employer assessed ‘real life’ work experience placement, providing a meaningful qualification and a credible standard employers can trust.

Successful completion of this award offers the young person improved job prospects and transferable skills in self evaluation, planning and goal setting that can be applied to any workplace.

The Certificate in Work Readiness has been developed by Skills Development Scotland and is accredited by SQA, which gives young people the chance to prove they have the skills that employers want.

  • Our young people will get a minimum of 190 hours work experience with an employer and develop their employability skills with Spohrt-Training.
  • A training allowance or Educational Maintenance Allowance may be available.
  • Young people are assessed by the employer at the end of the work placement.

The CWR Certificate is made up of 5 SQA units including the customised work experience unit:

  • Responsibilities of Employment.
  • Dealing with work situations.
  • Personal Development: Self and Work.
  • Skills for Customer Care.
  • Skills Development Scotland customised unit: Practical Work Place Skills.

Diploma for IT and Telecommunications Professionals SCQF Level 6 & 8

The Diploma for Information Technology and Telecommunications Professionals at SCQF level 6 provides learners with a qualification that will demonstrate their aptitude in this area. The Level 8 Qualification has a managerial aspect to it.

This diploma will develop the learner’s confidence and awareness of the skills that they have acquired, which they can use for employment and/or further study.

Competence qualifications are first and foremost about what people can do. They go beyond technical skills to include planning, problem solving, dealing with unexpected occurrences, working with other people, and applying the knowledge and understanding that underpins overall competence.This qualification was reviewed in response to feedback received through consultation with delivering centres.

The changes which have been introduced to the new qualifications do not involve any change to the overall required credits, mandatory units or qualification structures.

SQA AccreditedThe Diploma for Information Technology and Telecommunications Professionals at SCQF level 6 is suitable for:

  • people in a variety of IT occupational roles in which IT practice, support or management is the major focus of the job and not peripheral to it.
  • Learners who may have just left school
  • Mature candidates who may have been out of education for some time
  • Individuals who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification
  • People who wish to start their own business

The Diploma for Information Technology and Telecommunications Professionals at SCQF level 6 could provide progression to:

  • The Diploma for Information Technology and Telecommunications Professionals at SCQF level 8 which is a managerial course.
  • An HNC/HND in Computing or a related area
  • Employment in the IT sector
